Bay Potters Inc
Bay Potters is an established and active community group, now in its 27th year. Situated among the trees, the Pottery Shed is equipped with an extensive range of equipment, and a choice of indoor and outdoor working areas.
Topics covered at the regular meetings have included raku and pit firings, glaze technology, sculpture, mould making and mosaics. Glass slumping and glass casting are to be introduced in the near future.
Equipment available for members use include 2 large kilns – electric and gas, 4 pottery wheels, and slab roller.
Members of Bay Potters have been involved in many community arts projects throughout Hervey Bay, including:
the renovation of the Torquay Fountain (1999)
sculptural and mosaics murals at Yarrallee State School and Urangan High School
a mosaic panel on the Urangan Sea Wall
and a mosaic mural covering two walls at the Neighbourhood Centre.

As surely as a potter shapes clay into form, the art of pottery has shaped my passion with clay since early childhood.
Moving from Germany to Canada at the age of 13, I continued to hand-build, spending countless afternoons in the pottery studio throughout my years at High School. The first time I ever sat at the pottery wheel was in 1987 while taking a pottery class at the local community center when still living in Canada. My first experience on the pottery wheel was absolutely magical. I fell in love with the wheel that afternoon and I have been a wheel thrower ever since. My passion is in creating functional pottery using stoneware and porcelain clays. I delight in decorating with slip using a variety of techniques including slip-trailing, etching, marbling and also combining this with dip-glazing.
